Welcome to BHS

Buckhorn High School opened its doors in 1958, and since that time, the faculty and staff have educated the children of the New Market and Riverton communities with distinction.  Originally built for a student population of 400, today the school serves just over 1300.  The school has a tradition of excellence both in academics and athletics.  BHS is a United States Department of Education Blue Ribbon School of Distinction as well as a Lighthouse Blue Ribbon School; has appeared on The Washington Post’s list of America’s Most Challenging High Schools a number of times; routinely ranks among the best public schools in the state for Advanced Placement scores; and has a faculty of advanced degree holders and National Board Certified teachers.
